some scholars say Jesus uttered these words because he felt abandoned as he hung on the cross by God the Father.
I'm of the school of thought that it was sort of a "name that tune" version for the psalms. By saying the opening line of psalm22, those around him would mentally complete the whole psalm, which has a happy restoration ending

I think you are right on! Very powerful reading Psalms 22 with the cross in mind. Especially,
"30 Posterity will serve him;
future generations will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness
to a people yet unborn—
for he has done it."
